Pilates is a method that trains the mind and body to work together toward the goal of overall physical fitness. Each exercise is done in a particular sequence, with a minimum number of repetitions and a high degree of precision and mental focus. Pilates exercises are more effective than other types of exercise because they work several muscle groups at the same time. The movements stretch one muscle group while strengthening another, and require a great deal of abdominal control. Other forms of exercise and athletic activities develop strength in the arms and legs but largely ignore the core because these muscles are difficult to isolate and strengthen. In Pilates, all movements are initiated from the core and the result is a totally toned body.
“The Goal of Controlology (Pilates Method) …. “the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind and the ability to perform life’s daily activities with zest and ease.” – Joseph Pilates
Joseph Hubertus Pilates, one of the great pioneers of modern physical fitness and health, was a visionary in his approach and methodology. By combining the best of Western and Eastern philosophy, he brought together a series of controlled movements that engage both the mind and body. His exercises allow each user to experience a new awareness of muscle function and control.
“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.” – Joseph Pilates
Today there is an ever increasing popularity for the Pilates Method. Joseph Pilates predicted his method would continue to gain recognition beyond his lifetime, and it has, with the help of Romana Kryzanowka. Romana Kryzanowski was Joseph Pilates’ protege, and has been teaching his original philosophy of movements since 1941. She has been the “Force” behind the genius. Thanks to her, the pilates method did not die and Absolute Pilates is proud to carry the torch of exceptional Romana’s Pilates certified teachers.
“As owner and operator of Absolute Pilates, I am excited to share the Pilates Method of body conditioning. As a fitness professional I’ve realized that in order for an individual to gain results, the body and mind must be challenged and involved in the exercises. I welcome the opportunity to show you how Pilates can impact your body for a lifetime.”

I was first introduced to Pilates while I was a dance performance major at Northern Illinois University. With the privilege of taking Pilates mat classes from a Romana’s Pilates certified instructor, I realized the amazing benefits of this workout. After graduation I pursued the instructor training program at Pilates Connection in Evanston, IL. I had the rare opportunity to be trained and certified under the talented and skilled supervision of Rhonda Celenza (Level 2 Teacher Trainer) and Juanita Lopez (Level 1 Teacher Trainer). I am eager to share my knowledge of how Pilates disciplines and balances the body and mind.
